Prayer

Access to God! We are promised many things including...

Matthew 7:7

Jesus Himself said:

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (ESV)

Therefore: ⇒

Philippians 4:6

The apostle Paul wrote:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (ESV)

Therefore: ⇒

James 5:16b

James, the epistle writer wrote:

When a believing person prays, great things happen. (NCV)

Therefore: PRAY!

Interestingly, the process of prayer is seemingly one of the more difficult tasks God asks of us. But when we examine the process it is straightforward, simple, and doesn’t cost us anything! Yet, why is it that when many Christians are asked to pray they often stumble, stutter, or freak out? Prayer does not have any rules, there are no proper prayer postures, nor is there any proper prayer method.

Prayer is another example of God’s love. It is a direct line to God, the Creator, the King of all kings! Have you ever tried calling an important person? Even if you have a direct line of communication, chances are that you still have to go through someone else before you are able to communicate, if you can get through at all. That is not the case with God, regardless of time, location, or situation, He hears our prayers (spoken aloud or stated in your mind).

Asking God for provisions and guidance are only a few things we can talk to God about. Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, discussed the importance of prayer saying it is one of two offensive weapons in our Spiritual arsenal (see Ephesians 4:10-18). For example, we can pray for those that are lost, the healing of diseases, intercede for a country, and Spiritual revivals. Prayer can and does change things!

The word 'ACTS' is a popular acronym used by many Christians to guide their prayers. 'A' stands for adoration, as we should begin with praising God for being who and what He is (see Isaiah 25:1). 'C' refers to confession, we have all sinned against God (see Romans 3:23) and even though we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, we should regularly seek forgiveness (see 1 John 1:9). 'T' represents thanksgiving, we should always remember to give thanks to God for everything He has done (and will do, see Psalm 107:1). Once we have praised Him, confessed our sins to Him, and offerred our thanks to Him, we are then ready to bring our requests to Him through our supplications, the 'S'.

Here at Rediscover the Bible Ministries we desire to lift people and situations up in prayer. If you have a prayer request please email the request to info@rediscover.bible and state "prayer request" in the subject. Please do not send any private or sensitive information with the request.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

(Romans 12:12, ESV)

Here are a few helpful prayers to consider:

For Personal Salvation

I know I am a sinner and I believe You died on the cross for my sins. I turn from those sins and put my faith in You right now to be my Lord and Savior, my God and Friend. Thank You for hearing this prayer. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

For Someone Else's Salvation

[Note: Understanding that God will not violate someone's sovereign will, but we can pray for any barriers to the truth be removed.] Father, I come before You in prayer and in faith, believing that You desire for all men to be saved. Please help my friend see and understand that there is no other name by which we can be saved. I pray that they would turn to You and ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Recommitting Life to God

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge my sins and shortcomings and I choose to recommit my life fully to you. Lord Jesus, I come now to rededicate my life to You, that You may use me however You will. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

For Personal Health

Heavenly Father, I come before you today seeking your healing touch. I pray for your grace and mercy as I face this time of illness. Please, Lord, restore my health and strength. Take away the pain and suffering that I am experiencing. Give me the courage and hope to endure this challenge. I trust in your power and love. I believe that you can heal me, body, mind, and spirit. I surrender my worries and fears to you, knowing that you are in control. I pray for a speedy and complete recovery, so that I may return to my life and serve you fully. Thank you, Lord, for your love and faithfulness. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
