Everything a Christian Should Know About Prophecy

Chapter 2 - The Prophets of the Bible

The People God Chose to Be Prophets

We begin our study of Biblical prophecy by first looking at the people God selected to be His spokespeople. We will see a great diversity in the people God uses. They were men, women, influential, insignificant, rich, poor, and from a variety of bloodlines. God communicated with each of these people, some directly (although not always clear as to how), some through dreams, while others experienced visions. Not all prophets are identified in the text, those passages will be included at the bottom of each of the following lists.

Each of these people understood the importance of their mission to relay God’s message precisely. The Bible also identifies a number of false prophets in both testaments, since they were not selected by God, they will not be listed.

Both of the Old Testament and New Testament lists are in alphabetical order, along with a brief introduction to each person.  A synopsis of each prophet’s message follows the introduction. Some will be concise as they only had one or two messages to convey, while others will only be a summary, as that person was used by God repeatedly and prophesied on a number of occasions.
